Kimolos: The silver streak of the Aegean

S

mall but generously charming! The abundant chalk — from which the island derives its name — paints the seabed white, turning the sea in Kimolos into a huge natural swimming pool. Its sparkling reflection under the sun prompted the pirates to call it Arzantiera, i.e. "Silverland". But this isn't its only name. I was also called "Echinousa" and "Echidnousa" on account of the secrets held by its land and sea.

Born of the volcanic wrath of the Aegean Sea, Kimolos is the ideal destination for relaxation. Its wild and natural beauty captivates its visitors: the silver sandy beaches with the lilies and the tamarisk trees, the sparkling Cycladic sunlight, the whitewashed houses with the flowery courtyards at Chorio, the quiet evenings bathed in the moonlight.

Kimolos belongs to the western Cyclades island cluster and is located next to Milos. Chorio, the capital of Kimolos, is a charming settlement with picturesque cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. This is where you can find quality souvenirs, taste traditional dishes, enjoy local hospitality and fill your mobile phone with instagrammable photos!

How to get here
Kimolos is located at the southwestern tip of the Cyclades. It is 87 nautical miles away from the port of Piraeus where you can get conventional or high-speed vessels to Kimolos. The journey takes about 4.5 to 7.5 hours, depending on the route, as the ship stops at Kythnos, Serifos, Sifnos and perhaps Milos before reaching Kimolos.

Sea taxi/Small boat/Ferry boat
The closest island of the previously mentioned islands is Milos, at a distance of 900 metres. These two islands, Kimolos and Milos, are connected daily with many routes, by open-type ferry boats, traditional boats and speedboat taxis, departing from Psathi, the port of Kimolos, and arriving at Pollonia in Milos. Travel time, depending on the boat, ranges from 10 to 25 minutes.

Airplane
If you want a speedier trip and don’t like travelling by boat, there is an airport in Milos. Moreover, from Milos’s hub port you can get a conventional or high-speed ferry to other islands (from Folegandros to Santorini), as well as a ferry to Crete.

In addition, there is an “internal” ferry route, connecting several islands of the Cyclades with Kimolos that runs 2-3 routes per week.

The ANEMOLETHE Suites Hotel van will pick you up from the port and transfer you safely and swiftly to the hotel. Please let us know beforehand about your arrival time so that we can pick you up on time.
